Warm congratulations to Prof. Seth Grant and Dr. Laurence Hunt, awarded respectively the FENS EJN Award and the FENS EJN Young Investigator Prize 2020.

The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and EJN in partnership with the Wiley are pleased to announce the winners of the prestigious 2020 FENS EJN Award and FENS EJN Young Investigator Prize:

The awardees, chosen by an independent committee consisting of FENS leadership representatives and the EJN Editors in Chief, were selected in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions to neuroscience.

Seth Grant is internationally recognized for his seminal contributions to understanding the molecular biology of brain synapses and their function in health and disease. Pioneering work on the postsynaptic proteome (PSP) of excitatory synapses, spanning 25 years in the UK and involving major European and international partnerships, has produced transformative conceptual advances in our appreciation of brain structure and the mechanisms of learning, memory and behaviour, and revealed the key role of the synapse in numerous developmental, neurological and psychiatric diseases (synaptopathies), something promoted by a commitment to the dissemination and sharing of new findings.

Laurence Hunt is a Sir Henry Dale Fellow and Principal Investigator of the Cognitive Computational Neuroscience lab at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging at the University of Oxford. Following the award of his DPhil in 2011, Dr. Hunt joined the labs of Professor Ray Dolan and Professor Steve Kennerley at University College London. In 2012, he was awarded a Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship to support his work at UCL. In 2016 he was awarded a NARSAD Young Investigator Award by the Brain and Behavior Foundation, to pursue further independent research. In 2017, he was awarded a Henry Dale Fellowship by the Royal Society and Wellcome Trust to establish his own research group in Oxford.

FENS, Wiley and EJN congratulate the three awardees with their important achievements and on the selection for the 2020 FENS-EJN awards.

The award ceremony will take place at the FENS Forum 2020 in Glasgow (11 – 15 July 2020).
