Lab description
Dr. Lastres-Becker's laboratory is dedicated to investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and related disorders. The lab employs a multidisciplinary approach that includes molecular biology, biochemistry, and animal models to explore the role of various signaling pathways, such as those involving oxidative stress, inflammation, and protein aggregation, in the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. A key area of interest is the study of transcription factors like NRF2 and their potential as therapeutic targets. The lab is also involved in drug repositioning efforts, aiming to identify existing compounds that can be repurposed.
