The Master’s programme in Human Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary and international programme that provides students with a deep understanding of human brain function. The curriculum covers a wide range of neuroscience topics, including neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience, and neuroimaging techniques. Students will learn non-invasive imaging methods to investigate brain activity and structure, as well as behavioral methods to assess human cognition and performance.

Courses on brain imaging and behavioral methods not only cover theoretical concepts but also emphasize practical applications, teaching students how to independently analyze data. The programme has a strong focus on hands-on experience through lab work, case studies, and research projects. The Master’s programme benefits from a rich research environment, exemplified by cutting-edge neuroscience projects at the Turku PET Centre—one of the largest in the world—and close collaboration with the University Hospital, particularly through clinical neuroscience courses and joint research projects.

The programme is led by expert faculty with extensive experience in neuroscience and research, ensuring students receive high-quality instruction and mentorship. Additionally, students can participate in groundbreaking research projects through internships or their thesis work, gaining valuable insights into the latest advancements in neuroscience.

For students outside the programme who are interested in neuroscience, a minor in the field is available. The programme provides a strong foundation for careers in industries that require expertise in human neuroscience, such as companies developing novel health and gaming products or conducting customized marketing research. Furthermore, it offers excellent preparation for pursuing a PhD.

This Master’s programme was created by the Turku Brain and Mind Center (TBMC), a multidisciplinary brain research community that brings together researchers from the University of Turku, Turku University Hospital, and Åbo Akademi University.
