Job ID: 122391
PhD position in electrophysiology of arthropod neurons and neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 12 April 2025
Employment Start Date: 1 October 2025
Contract Length: 3 years
City: Orléans
Country: France
Institution: University of Orleans
Department: Biology and Biochemistry
Description:
Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are of particular interest because they are the main target of pesticides, which are important in agriculture for controlling insect pests, and veterinary medicine for preventing transmission of arthropod borne diseases. The adverse effects of neonicotinoids on non-target species have prompted companies to synthetize new compounds against insect pests. These new compounds still remain a matter of debate because of their potential adverse effects for non-target species such as pollinators and humans. We aim to explore their mode of action on arthropod neuronal nAChRs from molecular, behavioral and electrophysiological studies.
Methods and technical skills
We are looking for a motivated student (Teamwork and communication are important). The hired student will have to perform electrophysiology, molecular biology (PCR, isolation and purification of plasmid), and behavioral studies.
Pre-selection process
A pre-selection will be made based on documents provided by applicants (Complete CV, master’s degree results). Once selected, the applicant will receive a link to the final interview in Orléans or by visioconference (Foreign students).
