Description:
Ph.D. Influence of body signals on visual perception
The Dept. Cognitive Neurology (Prof. Melanie Wilke) at the University Medicine Göttingen is seeking a Ph.D. student interested in studying heart & brain interactions.
The aims of this project are to establish a physiological mechanism by which cardiac activity affects neural activity and ensuing cognition and perception; and to determine the causal role of central autonomous (‘CAN’) brain regions in mediating cardiac effects on neural activity and cognition.
Techniques relevant for this project are ECG-EEG, brain stimulation (TMS) and functional MRI. The project will also encompass the study of heart-brain interaction in patients with cardiac failure and stroke.
The project is embedded into the Research Training Group 2824 (GRK2824), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and offers a structured international 3-4‐year doctoral programme in the field of “Heart & Brain”. The program offers an excellent research environment, a comprehensive curriculum and a broad supervision and mentoring network.
