Description:

One PhD position in: Proteomics of neurodevelopmental disorders

Group: Dr. L. Cancedda

Brain Development and Diseases Laboratory, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT)

in collaboration with Core Facility for Omics Science, IRCCS Ist. G. Gaslini.

We invite applications for one PhD position focusing on the study of mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders caused by environmental or genetic insults, with the final goal to find new therapeutic treatments. Our ambition is to understand the molecular determinants of neuronal circuit development in health and disease with state of the art proteomic approaches (e.g., Rastogi et al., Neuron 2024; Potenzieri et al., Science Advances; Pinto et al., Neuron 2020). This project will focus on investigating the molecular mechanism impaired in physiopathology of animal models of neurodevelopmental disorders induced by environmental factors. The project is run through a close collaboration between the Brain Development and Diseases Laboratory, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT, PI Dr Cancedda), and the Core Facility for Omics Science, IRCCS Ist. G. Gaslini (IGG, Dr Petretto).

The ideal applicant has experience in Mass Spectrometry-based Omics, biochemistry or other relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced mass spectrometry analyses, with a focus on proteomics and other omics applications.
  • Prepare biological samples for proteomic analysis, ensuring high-quality data acquisition.
  • Operate and maintain high-resolution mass spectrometers, particularly Orbitrap systems, to support diverse research projects.
  • Develop and optimize protocols for mass spectrometry workflows, from sample preparation to data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret experimental results and design follow-up studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with mass spectrometry, specifically in proteomics and other omics fields.
  • Strong knowledge of biochemical principles and laboratory techniques.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages, including R and Python.
  • Familiarity with machine learning approaches for biological data analysis is a significant advantage.

Applications (full CV, statement of research interest and 3 recommendation letters) should be sent by email to Dr. Laura Cancedda (laura.cancedda@iit.it).
