Our laboratory, Gene Regulation and Adaptive Behaviors (Department of Neurosciences SU, University of Sorbonne, Paris, France) is seeking a talented and highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to undertake a multidisciplinary research project entitled “Stress Signaling in microglia: behavioral, functional and molecular consequences”. This project, funded by French Government Research Agency, ANR, comprises a consortium of 3 teams working in close collaboration. In addition to our laboratory, the other 2 participating teams working in the field of microglia are those of Dr David Blum (Lille) and Dr Etienne Audinat (Montpellier).
The project will focus on the role of microglia in stress-related brain psychopathologies. It is well established that repeated or traumatic stressful challenges result in abnormal levels of major stress hormone, glucocorticoid, which through its receptor GR can initiate maladaptive responses in the brain and in the immune system. Increasing evidence shows that pro-inflammatory signaling and microglia profoundly affect both the mood and cognition. We have previously shown that glucocorticoids through its receptor GR regulate many microglial functions including innate immunity. The aim of the project is to identify novel insights into how chronic stress-related microglial GR signaling affects neuronal functions resulting in vulnerability to pathologies such as dementia, anxiety or depression. The project combines behavioral work in transgenic mouse lines with in-depth molecular analysis that includes RNA seq, ChIP and ATAQ seq; and integrates functional microglial changes that are expected to affect neuronal activity.
We are seeking a candidate that has experience or strong interest in glial biology, mouse behavioral work and in molecular biology.
