University Professor of
Physiology
to succeed Univ.-Prof. Dr. Heiko Luhmann
(corresponding to salary grade W3 LBesG).
We are looking for a qualified candidate who will serve as a prominent representative of the field of physiology in its entirety and with regard to interdisciplinary networking in research and teaching. The position includes leadership of the Institute of Physiology. Therefore, in addition to professional qualifications, excellent leadership skills are expected. This includes team-oriented and creative working methods, strong communication skills, and a willingness to work towards the further development of the institute within the future department for pre-clinical medicine in an inclusive and proactive way. The shortlisted candidates’ non-subject-related skills will be evaluated individually during the selection procedure.
The Institute of Physiology is an integral part of the Focus Program Translational Neurosciences (FTN) at the Mainz University Medical Center. We are therefore looking for a candidate with proven expertise in the fields of neurophysiology or systems neuroscience. Additional skills in quantitative data analysis or scientific modelling are an advantage. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in the advertised field in the form of high-ranking publications as well as the acquisition of competitive third-party funding Furthermore, interdisciplinary networking with the two other scientific “profile centers” (Research Center for Immunotherapy (FZI), Center for Translational and Vascular Biology (CTVB)) within translational medicine is desired. Collaboration with adjacent disciplines at Johannes Gutenberg University (e.g., Biology, Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biosciences) and local external research institutions (e.g., Institute of Molecular Biology, Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research, Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Helmholtz Institute for Translational Oncology) is to be continued and expanded, also in regards to ongoing and planned Collaborative Research Centers.
In addition to experience in teaching courses and organizing the course offer in the field of Physiology, the future holder of the position is expected to ensure the fulfillment of the subject-related teaching obligations and develop innovative, interdisciplinary, practice-oriented, modular, and digital teaching methods. The readiness to support young researchers and ensure access to continuing education is expected. Proof of medical teaching expertise (e.g., certificate of medical didactics (Zertifikat für Medizindidaktische Qualifizierung)) and a recognition as a specialist in Physiology (Fachphysiolog:in or Fachärzt_in) are desirable. Habilitation or alternative achievements pursuant to section 49 subsection 1 no. 4 a) in conjunction with section 49 subsection 2 University Act (Hochschulgesetz) is a prerequisite.
All remaining conditions for employment are defined in § 49 of the Hochschulgesetz of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
On principle, a private-law employment relationship with the University Medical Center is provided for If the successful applicant already holds a permanent civil servant position, the employment status may be continued according to § 20 subsection 2 Universitätsmedizingesetz.
