Postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Pharmacology – dopamine D3 receptor signaling pathways
Position: Post-doctoral Position
Deadline: 17 December 2024
Employment Start Date: 1 February 2025
Contract Length: Up to 2 years
City: Umeå
Country: Sweden
Institution: Umeå University
Department: Dept. of Medical and Translational Biology
Description:
The Department of Medical and Translational Biology is offering a postdoctoral scholarship within Behavioral Pharmacology. The scholarship is full-time for two years with access 01-02-2025 (date month, year) or by agreement.
Project description
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Sahlholm Laboratory. Our work focuses on the pharmacology and function of G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and the actions of psychiatric and neurological therapeutics, such as antipsychotics and antiparkinsonian drugs. We are looking for a new fellow who will be using in vivo behavioral assays, such as open field locomotion and prepulse inhibition, scoring of L-DOPA dyskinesia, and ethanol intake, to study the role of specific signaling pathways downstream of the dopamine D3 receptor in baseline behavior and in animal models of psychosis, Parkinson’s disease, and substance abuse.
While the applicant will be expected to contribute to ongoing projects in the Sahlholm lab, s/he will also be encouraged to develop their own ideas related to the GPCR field.
Qualifications
The post-doctoral fellow is required to have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled no later than at the time of the decision about scholarship recipient.
Priority should be given to candidates who completed their doctoral degree, according to what is stipulated in the paragraph above, no later than three years prior. If there are special reasons, candidates who completed their doctoral degree before that may also be eligible. Special reasons include absence due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade union organizations, military service, or similar circumstances, or other forms of appointment/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Additional useful qualifications
We are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm for GPCR research: thus, a keen interest in neuropharmacology is of key importance. Prior experience with behavioral assays, rodent neurosurgery, and pharmacology research will be positively evaluated. Experience with in vitro pharmacology and cell culture is also meriting.
Application
The application should be written in English or Swedish, and attached documents should be in Word or PDF format. The application should be registered via Umeå University’s e-recruitment system Varbi and submitted by the deadline 12-17-2024.
