The Department of Medicine at McGill University is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in next generation tool development for circuit interrogation in the lab of Dr Paul Sabatini. The anticipated start date will be January 1 2025. The position will be run on annual, renewable contracts.

 

Research Project Overview
The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in projects that define the role of the central nervous system in body weight regulation. This will include developing, validating and utilizing novel genetic and viral tools to interrogate the neurocircuits regulating body weight.

Research Project Supervisor and Principal Investigator

The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Paul Sabatini at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada.

 

Salary

The postdoctoral fellow will be offered a salary of 45,000 per annum, with the additional ability to opt into an extended health and dental benefit plan.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of this position will, under the direction of Dr Paul Sabatini, be responsible for leading the research activities of the project, including but not limited to the following core responsibilities:

 

  • Actively designing and executing experiments
  • Developing and testing new research concepts
  • Applying for external fellowships
  • Writing manuscripts and grant applications
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimal supervision
  • Presenting and interpreting research data
  • Participate in the supervision of graduate students

 

Job Requirements

  • A PhD in neuroscience or energy balance
  • Experience working with laboratory mice and or rats
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Microscopy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Great problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Experience with Stereotaxic surgery is a benefit but not a requirement.
  • At least one first author manuscript published or available as a preprint.
