Description:

MIA-Portugal is actively recruiting 2 Postdoctoral researchers for the Synapse Architecture Lab, led by Joana Ferreira. The Synapse Architecture Lab is a newly established laboratory at MIA-Portugal, at the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal.

The Synapse Architecture Lab research focuses on the biology of brain ageing, in particular the synaptic nanoscale alterations that occur during ageing and their contribution to age-dependent cognitive decline. For more information click here

Job description: The candidate will use a combination of different techniques such as molecular biology, advanced microscopy, electrophysiology, and animal behavior to unveil new molecular mechanisms associated with cognitive resilience or cognitive impairment. In collaboration with the principal investigator, the candidate will plan, execute, analyze, and report experimental results. Additionally, the candidate will document their activities and findings in accordance with the laboratory and institutional data policies.

Appropriate training in Laboratory Animal Science and approval as a competent person to work with animals by the national authorities will be required.

Qualifications and professional experience required:

  • Hold PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related areas.
  • Must have proficiency in the written and spoken English language.
  • Accredited courses for Laboratory Animal Science will be valued. If not already completed, the candidate will be required to take the course.
  • Expertise in patch-clamp electrophysiology, human neuron reprogramming, advanced microscopy techniques, or animal behavior would be advantageous.
  • A strong interest in molecular and cellular neuroscience with a focus on synaptic plasticity or ageing will be valued.
  • Teamwork and cooperation, proactivity, ability to deal with stress, initiative and autonomy, critical thinking, planning, and organization will be valued skills.

Employment Conditions:

  • Full-time, at MIA-Portugal, at the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal.
  • Fixed-term position for three years, renewable for periods of one year, up to a maximum of six years.
  • 3427,59€ monthly gross salary.
