PhD position to study Alzheimer’s disease and resilience

Position: Ph.D. Student

Deadline: 15 September 2024

Contract Length: 3+1 years

City: San Juan de Alicante

Country: Spain

Institution: Instituto de Neurociencias (UMH-CSIC) - UCH-CEU

Department: Molecular Neurobiology and Neuropathology

Description:

Are you interested in Alzheimer’s disease (AD)? Do you want to learn a broad spectrum of neuroscience techniques? If so, please apply!

We are looking for a highly motivated candidates to join a collaborative effort between the labs of Jose Sanchez-Mut (https://in.umh-csic.es/en/grupos/functional-epi-genomics-of-aging-and-alzheimers-disease/) and Jorge Brotons-Mas ( https://www.uchceu.es/grupos-lineas-investigacion/laboratorio-de-cognicion-y-circuitos-coglab  ) at the Neuroscience Institute of Alicante, Spain.

The project aims to investigate the interaction between environment, neural activity and cognition in AD with a strong emphasis on circuit function.

Memory is a complex cognitive process that requires the integration of multiple sources and types of information. It decays with aging, and it is strongly impaired in AD, limiting daily life and threatening individual’s identity. In this project, we will investigate memory encoding and decay using mouse models of AD and a combination of state-of-the-art epigenetic, electrophysiology, optogenetic and behavioral techniques.

As an ideal candidate, you bring with you a background in programming (MATLAB, python etc.), electrophysiology and/or molecular and behavioral neuroscience. A master’s degree in Neurosciences, a degree in biomedical engineering, psychology, biology or similar with a weighted average grade >= 8 out of 10 is required.

To apply, please contact us (email: jorge.brotonsmas@uchceu.es, j.sanchezm@umh.es) with your CV, a letter of motivation outlining your research interests, your list of publications and three letters of reference.
