Ph.D. student positions at Ohio State

Position: Ph.D. Student

Deadline: 31 July 2024

Employment Start Date: 1 January 2025

City: Columbus

Country: United States

Institution: The Ohio State University

Department: Neurology/Neuroscience

Description:

The Beirowski lab at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Neurology & Neuroscience Research Institute is inviting applications for 2 Ph.D. student positions in multidisciplinary neurodegeneration research (fully funded, 3 different programs available: Neuroscience, Biomedical Science, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology).

The Beirowski lab has a unique focus on axon-glia interactions and tackles the question as to how glial metabolism regulates axon integrity (e.g., Nature Neuroscience, PMID 32807950; Nature Neuroscience, PMID 25195104; PNAS, PMID 28484008). For more information visit the lab website: www.axonglia.com. Examples for current projects are in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes/Schwann cells result in compromised axon integrity, and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support the survival of injured axons. Applicants should have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, hold a Master of Science (or an equivalent degree) in a relevant field or a medical degree, be highly motivated, and show good communication skills. Strong language and writing skills are important.
