Description:

At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

You will be working in a multicultural group, mainly composed by Biologists, Biotechnologist and Biomedical scientists, who work in close collaboration with the multi-disciplinary staff of IIT, having strong expertise on -omics, bioinformatics, material science, imaging, neuro-physiology and neuro-electronics. The Neurobiology of microRNA Research Line (https://ncrna.iit.it) is coordinated by Davide De Pietri Tonelli, who has extensive experience in the control of neural stem cell fate by noncoding RNAs in developing and adult mammalian brain. The research in the lab focuses on small noncoding RNAs in basic aspects of neurogenesis and its translational applications to RNA-based therapy for brain diseases.

The project aims at investigating the epigenetic bases of hippocampal behavior and age-dependent cognitive decline, with a focus on a novel noncoding RNA pathway recently identified by our lab, which plays crucial roles in neural stem cell fitness and neuroinflammation (Gasperini et al. The project will be exploited with readily available knockout murine models, viral vectors and primary cultures already established in the lab.
