Description:

A PhD student position is available in the lab of Prof. Nathalie Ginovart at the Departments of Psychiatry & Basic Neurosciences of the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Our research focuses on the brain mechanisms leading to drug addiction and compulsive behaviours.

The selected candidate will investigate the neural circuits and molecular basis underlying behavioural traits related to impulsivity using cutting-edge approaches such as in vivo fiber photometry, opto/chemogenetics, and in vivo molecular imaging. A major research focus of the postholder will be to elucidate how dopamine and glutamate neurotransmission in the neural circuits of the basal ganglia control these traits and contribute to the development of addictive-like behaviors in rodents.

We are looking for a highly motivated Ph.D. student with a MSc in Neuroscience, Medicine, Biology or related field. Good english communication skills (both written and oral) and a high commitment and curiosity about neuroscientific questions are essentials. The successful candidate will join the Lemanic Neuroscience Doctoral School program, which offers a pluri-disciplinary education in all fields of neuroscience and is organized by the Universities of Lausanne and Geneva and the EPFL (http://www.lemanic-neuroscience.ch/phd/).

Initial appointment is for one year, with an extension possible up to 4 years The salary will be provided according to the guidelines of the University of Geneva.

The starting date is 01.05.2024 but may be adjusted by mutual agreement.
